Hannah Fuller, 28, is a fitness blogger and advocate for a balanced approach to health.

After struggling with anorexia at the age of 14, Hannah worked hard to shift her focus from what she can lose to what she can gain — physically, but also emotionally and mentally.

Fuelled by a determination to regain control over her life, Hannah recovered from anorexia, and later osteoporosis, by nourishing her body with good nutrition and striving for a consistent, sustainable routine.

Her inspiring story and motivational captions have garnered a following on Instagram, where she shares her tips and advice for becoming healthy, strong and — most importantly — happy.

Below, Hannah discusses the ups and downs of her incredible health transformation and explains why she touts Purition as the ultimate nutritious and satisfying breakfast!

Food has helped me to achieve my goals

Whilst good food and nutrition is such a big part of my life now, it wasn’t always that way. Growing up, I was never into fitness. I used to beg my Mum for a note every week at PE, would avoid any sort of extracurricular activities, and generally had the perception that fitness was a whole different world I would never be part of.

I never gave myself the chance to appreciate my body for what it could do, instead I punished it for how it looked. To me, calories were a ‘bad’ thing, and I thought ‘healthy eating’ simply meant cutting them out. Deluded with this skewed perception from a young age, as I entered my teens, what started a diet quickly turned into an obsession, which quickly turned into anorexia nervosa.

It was only when, after months on end of unsuccessful treatment, the doctors told me there was no more they could do – I was too under the grips of the eating disorder for them to help.

My Dad, desperate to find another way, said to me – “I don’t understand, what was it you were trying to achieve from all this?”. My response, ironically, was that I just wanted to be fit, well and healthy. He simply suggested we start trying to achieve that… and we did. It was a complete realisation – food wasn’t something to be avoided, it was something that would help me achieve my goals.

From there on I educated myself about proper nutrition, I fuelled up on the foods that I knew were good for me. Once it was safe to do so I started exercising and building the healthy fit lifestyle I lead today. It was a hard lesson to learn, but it taught me so much about the importance of food and its role in supporting health!

Society overlooks the importance of healthy fats

I feel like the importance of fats in the diet is one that society, the fitness industry, in particular, seems to overlook. I understand why. With more than double the calories of fat or protein per gram, when cutting calories or dieting, fat is one of the easiest things to cut to facilitate a calorie deficit. But just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it’s healthy!

Pots of all 7 whole food ingredients used to make Purition; sesame seeds, flaxseed, coconut, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, almonds & sunflower kernels.

Purition is made with 70% ground seeds and nuts

For women especially, essential fatty acids are SO important for maintaining healthy hormonal function. I love including nuts and seeds in my diet. Aside from being really tasty, they’re such a good, natural source of fat, protein and fibre, with an array of vitamins and minerals that are essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

And that’s why I love Purition! Alongside being super easy to blend into a shake, it’s made with a focus on real food, with ground nuts and seeds forming the base of the blend.

Aside from a generous 20g of protein per serving, it’s the natural fats that really made these shakes a gamechanger for me! Better skin, stronger nails, increased satiety, happier hormones, more sustained energy… they call them essential fats for a reason.

Purition helps me to avoid the mid-morning slump

I love how natural Purition is and that they have allowed the amazing taste of the ground nuts and seeds to come through, rather than hide it under artificial sweeteners and flavourings like so many other brands do.

I also really like how the Discovery Box allows you to try out different options and find your favourite before you commit to the larger bags. There were so many delicious sounding flavours I wouldn’t have known where to begin – luckily with the Discovery Box I didn’t have to sacrifice!

I tend to work out first thing in the morning, therefore Purition is the perfect blend of a post-workout protein shake, but also a nutritious and satisfying breakfast. Due to the addition of the nuts and seeds, I find Purition much more satisfying than other shakes I have tried. It definitely helped me to avoid that mid-morning slump.

If I had to choose a favourite flavour, it would be the Chocolate – you just can’t beat a simple classic. Plus it tastes incredible in the 2 ingredient chocolate mousse. That’s my new go-to dessert!

I keep my diet as varied as I do my workouts

I am very varied in the activities I do. I love running, yoga, boxing, weight training, cycling, HIIT, Pilates – you name it! I try to keep my diet just as varied as I do my workouts.

Not only does it stop it getting boring, but also means I can benefit from a variety of different nutrients on a day-to-day basis. I try to eat natural, low processed foods most of the time… but if you were to offer me a slice of cheesecake, you can guarantee I will eat it!!

Food is so much more than its nutritional value. Whilst we have to be mindful of nutrients, of course, there is also a thing called life that needs to be enjoyed!
